This study tracks events relating to the Department of Defense's CB warfare program between 1968 and 1990, as it evolved up to the Gulf War. It also details how the military develops and procures CB defense equipment to protect today's soldiers. Mauroni draws parallels between the development of binary chemical weapons, the chemical demilitarization program, and the DoD CB terrorism response efforts, as each has very similar issues and solutions. He seeks to educate leading officials and the general public about the facts behind CB warfare and the options for coping with it in the future. With proper training and equipment, the challenge of CB warfare can be met and dealt with on the modern battlefield.

ALBERT J. MAURONI is a management consultant working on Department of Defense chemical-biological defense programs. He has 14 years experience as an Army chemical officer. He lives in Abingdon, Maryland with his wife Roseann and their three dogs.

Important Information for CBRN Professionals

Not for the casual or typical reader, "America's Struggle..." is great background information for those closely engaged in the CBRN business. Love or hate Al Mauroni, he is the only contemporary author writing on the specifics of DoD's CBRN defense program. Particularly interesting is his description of the near death of the U.S. Chemical Corps and how circumstances and the actions of some key leaders helped preserve this key capability for the U.S. Army. Sections of the book dealing with materiel programs such as decontamination and protection detract and divert the reader's attention from the true strength of the book which is the history of policy making and action in this key area. Going for over $100 on Amazon, don't pay that much, but if you get your hands on this book, it is worth a read.

Allan Dalton is Always Super!

More than the first half of the book is interviews of agents. They almost all sound the same!? Good filler?
But where the author really convinces me he has no experience selling Real Estate (Yes, I read your bio.) is when he states only weak agents are held back by the market conditions and or comps. He states a good agents marketing should set the price not the comps.
In the last thirty some years I have sold many houses to buyers that the appraiser came along and cut the price. I have also sold many of my listings and occasionally the appraiser made us lower our price. I work in an area of non conforming houses, hills and flats. Estate homes by much cheaper standard homes. It's very hard to comp this area, even if you know it like I do. I often fight the appraiser's to get a higher value. But I have to use comparable listings, not marketing.
I bought your book because I missed your class at the local board. I will be keeping my eye out for the next one because I am really hoping to hear the logic behind your fantasy.

İf you're ready to advance...buy this! Not for Beginners!

This book explains very clearly with numerous examples a number of grammar points that have been either 1. problematic for me or that 2. İ had wondered about but hadn't figured out yet what question to ask.
1. There is a whole section on complex sentences in Turkish that use the ~DIK {past or present tenses} or ~(y)AcAK {future tense} suffixes in their construction. There are examples which show how the suffixes attached after the ~DIK or ~(y)AcAK suffixes change for the first, second and third person singular and plural.
2. There is a section that deals with which set of verb-ending suffixes are used with which verb tense and this area also reveals which verb tenses use just mI as the interrogative particle after the infinitive + tense signifier + verb-ending suffix and which use mI + (y)verb ending after the infinitive + tense signifier. This area is very eloquently explained via a simple chart; probably one that is used in Turkey with students in the school system there when they study Turkish (Ummm...you know like we study English in school in English speaking countries.).
Warning: Not every example sentence or phrase in the book is translated into English. Many examples are translated while a number are not. İt is left up to the reader to access a good dictionary and to translate them him/herself. For the beginner this would be frustrating, but for someone who is intermediate (or more advanced) and has a larger Turkish vocabulary than a beginner this would not be frustrating and it actually forces one to actively learn rather than passively being spoon-fed the translation everytime.
This is the book İ for which İ have been waiting. İt should be used in conjuction with a good dictionary or an online dictionary and this set of books at http://www.amazon.com/Elementary-Turkish-Compelete-Beginners-Arastirmalari/dp/9757981346 would be a good preliminary book to start with.

Avoid the ebook edition

I have read the preview on my kindle paperwhite. The ebook edition is terrible to unusable. It looks like nobody put any work into editing it for the digital world. Within the text the turkish letters ş and ğ do not get displayed correctly and the qualıty of tables is so awful that even when zoomed ın they are not readable. Also, as lots of things are included as graphics rather than normal text, you can have up to three different letter sizes on one page.

The content quality might be great but the ebook edition is unacceptable.

Recommended for self-learners of Turkish language

There are not so many materials that can be found on self-learning of Turkish language, unlike French or German. This book gives a lot of examples and exercises. I believe after completing doing exercising in this book, you will have a strong grasp of basic Turkish grammar and from thereon you can expand your practical knowledge of Turkish language. I am still using it and have completed several chapters of this book. I must say I am enjoying doing the exercises. It also enclose appendices of Turkish grammar peculiarity at the end of the book. It also provided answer key to the exercises at the end.

I must say that this book will be enjoyed for those who believe that grammar is essential for language learning. But it does not include any audio material or fun games. As I belong to the old school of thought, this is not a problem for me. It definitely can be a good reference book in a classroom. You can use this book together with other Turkish language learning materials for the maximum impact.

About the Author

Glenn Hubbard, policymaker, professor, and researcher. R. Glenn Hubbard is the dean and Russell L. Carson Professor of Finance and Economics in the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University and professor of economics in Columbia’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He is also a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a director of Automatic Data Processing, Black Rock Closed-End Funds, and MetLife. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1983. From 2001 to 2003, he served as chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers and chairman of the OECD Economic Policy Committee, and from 1991 to 1993, he was deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department. He currently serves as co-chair of the nonpartisan Committee on Capital Markets Regulation. Hubbard’s fields of specialization are public economics, financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, macroeconomics, industrial organization, and public policy. He is the author of more than 100 articles in leading journals, including American Economic Review, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Public Economics, Quarterly Journal of Economics, RAND Journal of Economics, and Review of Economics and Statistics. His research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Bureau of Economic Research, and numerous private foundations.

Tony O’Brien, award-winning professor and researcher. Anthony Patrick O’Brien is a professor of economics at Lehigh University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1987. He has taught principles of economics for more than 20 years, in both large sections and small honors classes. He received the Lehigh University Award for Distinguished Teaching. He was formerly the director of the Diamond Center for Economic Education and was named a Dana Foundation Faculty Fellow and Lehigh Class of 1961 Professor of Economics. He has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon University. O’Brien’s research has dealt with issues such as the evolution of the U.S. automobile industry, the sources of U.S. economic competitiveness, the development of U.S. trade policy, the causes of the Great Depression, and the causes of black—white income differences. His research has been published in leading journals, including American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, Industrial Relations, Journal of Economic History, and Explorations in Economic History. His research has been supported by grants from government agencies and private foundations.

About the Author

ICHIBA ASHIDA is the Headmaster of the Enshu Seifu School of Ikebana, formerly known as the Enshu School. Born in Tokyo in 1938, he learned the Enshu style of ikebana from his grandfather. In 1967 he became the Kyoto-based school's 14th headmaster.
The Enshu School has one of the oldest ikebana lineages, dating from its founding in the 17th century by Kobori Enshu (1579-1647), a government official in the first three Tokugawa shogunates who made his name as a tea master, pottery connoisseur, and garden designer and architect associated with such landmarks as the Nijo Castle and Katsura Detached Palace in Kyoto. Enshu is best known for its classical shoka style, in which mature branches are painstakingly shaped into graceful curves by cutting small notches into the branches and inserting wedges of wood. Since becoming headmaster, Ashida has broadened the schools' curriculum by developing unique variations of other traditional ikebana forms. He has also created a totally new form of ikebana using cut flowers and potted plants, Ikebana with Living Plants, which is introduced in this volume.

Beautification for your house plants

Ikebana with Living Plants provides great ideas on how to increase appreciation for those house plants you're sheltering for the winter. As a well-organized visual design book, it favors a brief pictorial approach over prose descriptions laden with unfamiliar vocabulary. Those of us who are all thumbs can bloom in our own right, including the guys among us who are proudly ignorant of flower arranging. Ikebana allows us to choose among this week's grocery store flowers -- the simple ones, not just the roses -- and impress house guests with style. Those willing to visit the florist will earn serious respect.

For those that care, ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging, anciently practiced by samurai in their off hours from swordsmanship drills and zen meditation. Samurai were apparently not drilled in marketing. So while the book is packed with good visual ideas, it does not include a glowing, self-promotional prose section that makes the reader feel privileged to participate in an uncommon set of ideas.

Those with an interest in terrarium design may also find these ideas valuable. And they can be adapted to mixing potted plants among bedded plants when all that greenery gets planted out in the spring.

I rated this book both as a cookbook and as a reference book. Even though you won't sit and read Ikebana cover to cover, you can count on it as worthwhile for a couple of dozen good ideas. This is a different & interesting approach to Ikebana following the French tradition of pot-et-fleur combined with Japanese aesthetics. The author gives a concise but comprehensive outline on principles followed by lots of illustrated arrangements which gives inspiration & ideas to creating your own combinations.

It marries a love for flowers with that of green potted plants so one can have the best of both worlds!

My son loves this book! He is 2 1/2 years old and just discovered the Berenstein Bears. This is one of the books he wants me to read over and over. Plus it's a good lesson!

My 20 month old son enjoys this book. Hopefully soon the message will resonate with him in real life, as he's not a huge fan of cleaning up. But you really can't go wrong with the Berenstain Bears.

Really, truly for families

What I love about Good Dirt is that the authors actually have families (adults with children) in mind. This isn't a "let's dumb down the Bible and give Jesus a superhero cape" kind of book. It's a thoughtful, funny walkthrough of each day of the season, with ideas to engage littles and breadth & insight for adults. You don't have to be an expert Christian, and you don't have to abandon your brain.

Each season has an overview plus a set of possible practices for the whole season. This is followed by weekly themes and approaches. Each day has a scripture, set of prayers, thought questions, and bedtime review (similar to the Ignatian idea, if that's helpful). "Boisterous singing" is highly recommended, as are various crafts-for-the-less-than-crafty (yay!) and riffs on classic traditions and spiritual practices.

Seriously, if you're trying to help yourself and your kids get closer to Jesus and each other, dig into Good Dirt.

For Anyone Who Has Been Searching For Exceedingly Good Instruction For Their Children/Family. It's Here!

I've been waiting for this book for a long time. I usually don't buy curriculum to teach my children the ways of Jesus. But Borgo and Barczi are such good writers and teachers that I bought my first sort of faith instructional book. This is it. I love how this is taking us and children through the beginning of the church year. Liturgically beautiful, too! I wish I had them here in my church to instruct in the Jesus Way. But if I can't have them, I'll take the book. I can trust them to teach us and our girls about Jesus. They are truly gifted. Order it right away!

I absolutely loved this book! I do not have any children yet, but I plan to use this book with any of the little people who come along in my life. It was extremely "user friendly" to those who are unfamiliar with the church calendar or church traditions. I would definitely recommend it to parents with children of all ages and as a great way to implement meaningful Advent traditions.
