Very good condition

It's in much better shape than most hymnals from its era. I'm used to the duct tape bound one on the organ at church so this is a treat. The church name stamped is "Hemet" so my geographical knowledge has increased. I looked it up and it seems there's only one city by that name in the US. Guess that's my "new" thing for today.

Save your money and stick to the teachings of Graham and Dodd

I've read a lot of value investing books including The Intelligent Investor, Security Analysis, and any book on Warren Buffett or Benjamin Graham that I could find. I thought this book overall was 98% fluff. The section on financial statement analysis was fair but still rather weak. Ian tells you to look for companies that are small, earning a profit and are growing but doesn't dig deep and cover any good examples on analyzing a specific business or company that meets the fundamentals that he discusses. It would have been very helpful if he could have covered the fundamentals then look at a couple of successful and unsuccessful examples or case studies applying the fundamentals. He does mention a few stocks that he recommended through his website that did decent but doesn't teach you well on how to do the analysis yourself. He doesn't cover much on earnings or asset valuation which I was very disappointed. I don't think he mentions anything discussing book value or digging deep into the balance sheet comparing net asset value or book value to market value. All very high level discussion with a big push to his website. Overall, I felt the book was inspirational when it comes to investing in small cap stocks but very weak on the practical application of security analysis. Price is what you pay and value is what you get. Save your money and stick to the teachings of Ben Graham whose principals are timeless. As Buffett says, "...those who read their Graham and Dodd will continue to prosper".

A guide to investing, but only with a flavoring of small cap concepts

I wanted to like this book. Small cap investing is a terrific idea, and I was hoping this book could tell me all about. And it can... sort of. This is a book about investing, but it only has a flavoring of small cap stocks.

The bulk of this book is about fundamental analysis, technical analysis, and diversification. These are all incredibly important topics, and the author covers them in an easy-to-read style. But these chapters could just as easily be pulled out of any investment book. Fundamentals? Read The Intelligent Investor. Tech analysis? stockcharts.com's guides or Bollinger on Bollinger Bands. Diversification? Check out Robert Shiller's lecture on the subject at iTunesU for free.

All those concepts in an easy-to-read manner would be a reason for buying this book if he actually showed you how to apply it to small cap stocks. However, he doesn't. What's more, the most small-cap-centric chapter, on how to find good candidates, speaks in generalizations and uses large cap stocks for examples!

If you're a complete novice to investments, this might be a good book for you. For everyone else, skip it.

Beautiful and helpful

Good paper and color, and a good mix of text and beautiful illustrations. This book is a pleasure to read whether you have a piano/keyboard or not.

It has actually helped me learn the basics of keyboard playing and music reading. It's concise and informative, not a lot of fluff. It tells you when you need more practice to acquire specific skills, and it suggests that you take it slow and move forward only after you master those skills. At the end, you'll find a 24-page colored chord dictionary. Very nice and helpful.

Bad Start

Total Piano Tutor Bad start, bad music store, however, the sale person did a good deed. he point out an error at the very first peace of music in the book. He wasn't trying to be nice, he just wanted find errors in my choice of a lesson book. I stopped taking lesson there, I felt the teacher wasn't doing what I expected Other experiences with this music store wasn't so good. The sale pointed out the error because of he wanted find something bad with my choice of material. I had open the book to page 38 he looked at it and found a error and also found a error in the book on page 38. The book has 192 pages. Will there be more errors??? The piece "Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring" The last stanza of this piece has two errors The author wrights F key for D key and instructs student to use keys 3-4-3 to play for C-B-C. The sale's person pointed out that keys 3-4-3 should be keys 3-2-3. I afraid to go on with this tutorial, there may be more errors I may not find. (errata is needed). I felt it was right to give this book one star.

Powerful Book for every woman

Great gift for newly wed and every woman trying to conceive. It gives you reasons why hinderances occur, promises from God's word, encouragement and filled with tesimonies of several ladies who could not conceive and finally gave births. Among them were ladies who were told they were having miscarraiges but stood on God's word and delivered, ladies whom no babies coul be found on ultraosund and 7 months later they were able to and so much more. It helped build my faith and a breakthrough book for anyone who need help in this area.

I think it's an excellent book, and while it's not systematic in a way that would turn it into a primer on positional play, there is no question but that this will improve the positional understanding of many club players. I'd say this is one of the best, if not the best middlegame books I own ...

I'm around 1900 USCF and own a whole lot of chess books (200+). I'd say this is one of the best, if not the best middlegame books I own and destined to be a classic soon! Reminds me a lot of Soltis' 100 Master Trade Secrets but I'd say it is a bit more advanced and only has middlegame patterns and priyomes. I like that the chapters are short but yet have enough examples to illustrate the theme/pattern without over-doing it. Each section has exercises too at the end. And although I haven't gone through it yet cover-to-cover, the editing and language etc seems error free and well done. Bravo New In Chess and Arthur Van de Oudeweetering!! A true gem.

I really like this book

I really like this book. I think it is in the genre of recent and classic middlegame books, but it is more strictly classified by the type of position. The examples are current, most of the examples include the preceding moves, there are some exercises ( they seem carefully selected, I haven't worked on those yet.). One thing I am a bit ambivalent about, complete games aren't always cited. Usually the author stops with a diagram when he concludes the lesson, and comments on the result of the game. This is fine, for the most part, but sometimes the player who had a clear advantage ended up losing, and I am get curious about how why that happened. That is a minor quibble, and really a small complaint about what is a fine book. Four stars!!

One of a kind!

This is a one of a kind book. Instead of openings and variations or strategy books about everything, the author researched games and positions
that occur frequently in games. The book is divided in small chapters with some model games and a sometimes funny title for the theme he is
explaining.For instance, The Octopus means a Knight on d6 (or d3) because we can see the tentacles spreading around a great part of the board.
I am still studying the book and I already can see the patterns (and the nicknames) in the games I replay.A great book!

Perfect coverage for getting started using android smartphone connecting to pi 2

This book covers exactly what you need to know and do in order to use an android smart phone (or even android stick) to communicate via wi-fi or bluetooth with the pi 2. All the Linux and Android commands are given to setup a truly usable environment for creating a great IoT devices. This book goes a bit further by helping you understand what issues you may have and how to overcome them or gives extra resources if it's outside the scope of the book. I learned how to remote manage the pi from android, install, configure, and manage mysql database, a webserver, read from GPS and a temperature/humidity sensor, and how to connect the pi to your car OBD-II and stream that data to a google doc spreadsheet using your phone as a mobile hotspot. It also includes the basic things like installing a media center, a file server, and a security camera. But the meat of connecting it all up is the car data logger. In order to do the reading and streaming from Android, you get to create an Android App using Android Studio.

This book may not be for everyone since the scenarios are so specific. For instance, I may not want Android to communicate with the pi through wi-fi or bluetooth, but some other connection. You'll need to figure out how to connect via a hard-wire/usb/other device on your own.

However, though I wish there were more chapters to this book related to other connection methods between the pi and Android, I found it still very comprehensive for the tasks it was attempting to teach me. You can literally sit down and follow the examples word for word (you may need to be a bit creative if you're not using the same hardware/software versions) and have usable environments. I love that this book is so hands on and not so much theory.

Another useful book to dust off that raspberry pi you have sitting on a shelf or go beyond lighting some leds with it.

This title adds a new dimension to the myriad of existing ones by pairing the pi with and android phone to boost its capabilities. Don't get it wrong, you are not installing Android SO inside the pi but just the usual raspbian linux distribution. Keep that in mind before getting this book. If you are in search of that specific scenario, give it a look to all the other titles PACKT has into the matter that may suit you best.

To get the most of this book it's advisable you have a little background in electronics (you'll tinker with some simple electronic components, sensors, leds and so on) and also some programming background (C, java or PHP will be enough to follow books examples).

From this point the book will guide you through different real-life projects with a very practical, less theoretical, approach (winner way to learn imho) using the strong multimedia and IoT capabilities present on the Raspberry Pi 2 and today's smartphones.

We are all distracted, by office interruptions, SMS, RSS feeds, and emails.

Distraction takes a philosophical perspective (technical/academic philosophical -- not new age or mere reflection) on what distracts us and how it reduces our freedom to direct our lives.

The book leads gently (almost by distracting the reader -- I jest) into the life habits and opinions of leading philosophers through the ages who have grappled directly or indirectly with distraction.

Rather than a simple self-help approach, Distraction changes the way you THINK ABOUT distractions and where your life is leading -- particularly, where you are leading your life to. And is an educational read into the bargain.

Huh?

This started out as an interesting read but I found it increasingly difficult to keep my interest the farther I got into it. My focus finally fizzled out half way into chapter 4 after which I just skimmed my way through to the end of the book. I kept wondering just what the point really was, and if he ever actually made it I must have missed it. The conclusion certainly wasn't memorable for me. Philosophy isn't so foreign to me so what did captivate me provided some very interesting and entertaining food for thought, it was just a bit obtuse at times. Maybe it was just me. Get the book from the library and find out for yourself.
