I am a Lean Practioner and 6 Sigma Black Belt. The advertisement for the book lead me to beleive that it was something different. I enjoyed and learned from the book.

What the book was to me is a personal history of the introduction of lean to the US. Mr. Bodek was a key and instrumental force in doing so. From that perspective the book fills in a lot of gaps of how things happened and who played what role. The book also gives a great overview of what Lean (Toyota Production System, TPS) is and how it is applied, and who the key players were/are and an insight to their personalities.

The book is not a detailed examination of the production system. If you are looking for that, Mr. Bodek gives references to other books published by his company translated from the original Japanese. This gives you insight to those works and which to chose from. This, in and of itself, is worth the price of this book.

The book does cover the major topics of the TPS and gives plenty of examples and implementation stories. The stories are great in themsleves, and a great insight to the way of Japanese management. Mr. Bodek is a strong proponent of that style. It also goes into some biographies of the key players in the process. It hits on Demings' and Juran's impact in Japan.

The war stories of the industrial touring trips to Japan were interesting. The problems faced by jumping in to the publishing opportunities to present the original works to a new audience were facinating business stories.

The biggest AHA moment for me was the discussion on Quick and Easy Kaizen, or the Japanese implementation of a sugggestion system. Radically different from any I've seen in the US outside of Honda and Toyota.

If your looking for a fast easy read on the history of bringing Lean to the US and the key underpinnings of the process to include a good description of the key components with annecdotes, this is the book for you. If your looking to understand lean and find other references of use to you, this is the book for you. If your insterested in filling in some knowledge gaps of how and why some things happened, again, this is for you. If your looking for specific action items to implement specific components, go elsewhere, or use this book as a guide.

Norman Bodek is a master and genius when it comes to sharing information about Lean Manufacturing. I just finished reading Kaikaku and must praise and congratulate Norman for his vision to have seen the potential in Japan and the people in Toyota all those years ago. Norman truly is an inspiration and unsung hero of modern manufacturing and this book shares some great personal experiences with the original creators of Lean in Japan such as Ohno and Shingo, to name just two.
This account of his experiences and the wisdom shared within the book (Kaikaku) will benefit the many people and companies who are attempting to get to grips with the lean tranformation process all over the world. This book has unveiled many of the mysteries surrounding the original creators of Lean and shows how basic common sense and simple thinking by everyone can create miraclulous results in any company.

About the Author
Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinski are co-authors of the Dormia trilogy. They met in the wind-swept desert of the Middle East many years ago, and told a lot of stories. Thankfully, their families allow them to continue telling stories, starting with the Dormia trilogy and continuing with their latest project, Nightfall. Peter is a U.S. diplomat, currently working as Consul General in Calgary. Jake is a contributor to the New Yorker and his latest story, The Secrets of the Temple, is being developed into a movie by the producers at Heyday Films, who also made the Harry Potter movies.

Like All Great Trilogies

For readers of "Dormia" and "World's End," this last book in the series fulfills the expectations created by the earlier journeys of Alfonso Perplexon, his family, cohorts, and adversaries. The pace of "Shadow Tree" is just as breathless as readers of the series should expect. The authors are superb writers ("Everything was in short supply: food, vegitation, light, life") with wondrous imaginations that create an ancient library, a fantastic flying machine, pillars made of bone, graphic clues, fog wolves and tentacles of the Shadow Tree that threaten civilization. You will not be able to put this down. It is a worthy conclusion to a really great trilogy.

Such a great end to the trilogy

I started reading this trilogy to my kids about a year ago. We couldn't put the books down - every page was packed with suspense, action, fantastic character development, - and when we finished the second book and found the 3rd (Shadow Tree) wasn't published, we just about cried.

Now that we've finally got Shadow Tree, I am happy to report that it was worth the wait. We can't put it down. An excellent read for anyone who enjoys Harry Potter, or the like. Smart and elegant writing that is still suitable and appropriate for children (mine are 9).

Let me start by saying that on a scale of one to ten, this book is a 5000. Second, this was a great way to end the trilogy. Lots of times the third book in a trilogy sucks, but not this one. Can't say a single bad thing about it! Like the other two books, it leaves you hanging at the end of every chapter. There's also a surprise special twist at the end that you won't see coming. 3000 stars for shadow tree!

An insightful and detailed guide on the use of steroids and anabolics

[[VIDEOID:6ca1aab158f491bba76d018aeb2f481c]] As an avid pursuer of proper aesthetic results and a more capable physical ability, I purchased this book in the hopes that it could illuminate me on the varying aspects of steroids and their impact on my body's growth. From the beginning it was obvious that the author was an authority on the subject; his descriptions are well described and without complications or fluff. I thoroughly enjoyed the introductory writing and found the information on the negative feedback loop and side effect descriptions very enlightening. Also, the information on injections and syringes was indispensable. Just reading those first few pages provided me elucidating information that has increased my knowledge on steroids exponentially.

From there, the author breaks down the different types of steroids, hormones, and anabolics that are readily on the market. He succinctly describes the benefits, details, and possible downsides of each option in a way that provided me the exacting clarity that I needed in order to choose which product was best for me. The additional info on anti-estrogen items that are to be used was worth the price of the book alone: They let me know what I needed to utilize in tandem with my chosen steroid. From HCG and D-Bol all the way to insulin and the best products necessary for cutting weight, there is nothing left out of this all-inclusive guide. Dollar per dollar, there is no better way to acquire all the vital information needed to use steroids safely and effectively. This book answers all the questions. It comprehensively covers all. It is a thorough reference guide. It was a brilliant idea to keep the book short, nice and simple. My advice to steroid users and the just curious is you will not find a cheaper and more comprehensive book on steroids. I wasted lots of money buying bad books but this one is great.

This book is very direct. Before I even got into the steroids reference part I learnt all about the whole theory and practice of steroids, for instance anabolic and androgenic effects, alcohol and steroids, negative feedback loop (particularly useful), estrogen levels, water retention, sexual overstimulation, intramuscular and intravenous, how to measure or dose, where to get your syringes, how to inject, and which ones are better.

Recomiendo esta novela porque es como uno de esos casos de la vida real que vemos retratados en la televisión. Al leerla sentí que conocía demasiado de cerca la historia, no puedo entrar en infidencias y contar por qué, pero es la verdad, la gracia es que en las novelas siempre hay finales felices, en cambio en la realidad, muchas veces no es así.
