About the Author

Tony Hawk is the bestselling author of Hawk: Occupation: Skateboarder. In the 1999 X Games, Tony landed the first 900 degree arial turn in skateboarding history. A stunt he had been working on for years. He has released three video games for playstation: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. He lives in Carlsbad, California, with his wife and three children.

Sean Mortimer was the editor of Skate -- boarder magazine and coauthored Hawk: Occupation: Skateboarder with Tony Hawk. He lives in Oceanside, California, with his wife and son.

Tony Hawk Professional Skateboarder - Great Book

I like the book because when I read it it helped me land new tricks. I learned a lot about Tony Hawk. He would never give up and he would always try to land tricks no matter what. He wanted to get better and that told me that it doesn't matter how much pain you are in when you land it. It is all worth it because now you have a new trick. He also did not let what other people thought influence him. He wanted to be a skateboarder when it was not cool, but he did not care. He knew what he liked to do and did it.

After I read the book, I was all pumped up. Whenever I would go to the gap I would always try to land this trick that I couldn't do and then after I read the book I said to myself it is worth it no matter how bad I fell just get up unless you break something, and after I said that then I went for it and did my all, and I landed the trick on my third try and from there on I have been landing all of my tricks and become a better skateboarder.

I think that every skateboarder should read this book because it will inspire them a lot like it has inspired me. Before I read this book I thought that Tony Hawk was just a pro skateboarder and I thought that he wasn't that good. When I read this book that my friend recommended, I said to him that I didn't like Tony Hawk that much, and he said just read it. So I went to the libary and checked it out. Then, I got into it. I found out that he wasn't a poser or a loser that he all he wanted to do was get kid skateboarders into it and to teach them and help them out with their skating. Because of all his success, he is able to do a lot to help kids all over the world. He is a cool guy and this is a great book.

When Tony Hawk was still a young boy, his older brother gave him his first skateboard. This was the beginning of a skateboarding star. Tony became a professional skateboarder at the early age of 14. I chose to read this autobiography on Tony Hawk because as a fan of Tony, I am interested in the sport of skateboarding and am amazed by how many accomplishments Tony has made in his life because of skateboarding. For Tony, skateboarding was an activity that shaped his life and helped him succeed.

Tony Hawk was not an ordinary child growing up. When he picked up the sport of skateboarding, he had so much energy. He had a lot of determination that came out whenever he was doing anything that had to do with competition. His parents encouraged him and were supportive from the start. This support of his parents helped him follow his dreams and become what he is today, a professional skateboarder.

Skating taught him the meaning of focus and perseverance. If at first he did not succeed, he would try and try again. He would get hurt many times trying to learn new tricks. He knocked out his front teeth more than twice. Getting hurt didn't bother him because he knew he sometimes had to pay a price to learn a new trick, and once he landed the new trick, he knew that all that pain was worth it.

The more time he spent on the skateboard, the more it built up his confidence. It didn't bother him that he wasn't the popular guy at school, or that he didn't have many friends or a girl friend, all he cared about was being with other skaters at the park and having fun learning new tricks. When Tony was growing up, skateboarding was unpopular and it was considered a geeky thing to do that only weirdo's and nerds did. He was teased by his classmates for skateboarding, and he did not fit in like the other kids at school. His clothes were torn and beaten from skateboarding, and he always had scabs on his knees and elbows- but he did not care. In his book, Tony said "I worked out any problem by skating". His confidence and his love for skateboarding helped him get through the rough times in his life.

Tony Hawk had never expected to make a career out of skateboarding. His fame never interfered with his skating. The reason he lasted so long as a professional skateboarder is because he was always thankful for what skateboarding had done for him growing up. Skateboarding taught him self-discipline at a young age and helped him control his frustrations and turn them into something useful and positive. All in all, skateboarding made Tony succeed in his life.

Excellent supplement!

I used this book as a supplement in a Constitutional Law course while in law school. I found that it set forth, in very plain terms, what were relatively complex issues to get a hold of. This book helped me get an 'A' in that course and made the lectures more meaningful by giving me an additional layer of context in which to put the class discussions. I highly recommend this book for any law school student.

Constitutional Law In a Nutshell , 7th Ed.

This soft covered text of over 700 pages, was purchased new and arrived ahead of time and in good condition. This is a very interesting textbook. Written in plain English (not legalese) it covers topics from Allocation of Judicial Powers to Due Process to Civil Rights and Liberties and everything else in between. It is a very compact reference book. If you are taking a class in Constitutional Law, this text is a must as it gives a great overview of cases and the law, "in a nut shell."

One of the Better Nutshells

The Nutshell Series is great for law students who want a refresher in the days before a final. The Con Law book is no exception. These books sum up all of the main points in an easy read that's broken out by subject so you can easily skip sections you didn't cover in class. However, unlike others in the series, I feel this one actually provides a pretty clear picture of Con Law even if you haven't taken the course yet. Usually I recommend you wait until the end of the semester to plow through these in a day or two, but this one may be worth buying before class starts to give you an understanding of the topic from the get-go.

About the Author
Richard L. Thompson was born in Binghampton, New York, in 1947. In 1974 he received his Ph. D. in mathematics from Cornell University, where he specialized in probability theory and statistical mechanics.

Dr. Thompson has done scientific research in quantum physics, mathematical biology, and remote sensing. He has extensively investigated ancient Indian astronomy, cosmology, and spirituality, and he has developed multimedia expositions on these topics. He is the author of six books on topics ranging from consciousness to archeology and ancient astronomy.

Misleading title

Be sure to notice the small print under the main title "in Detail". This seems to be a book for a seamstress. It is all close up details, no full length pix at all, which is good if that is what you want. I wasn't thorough enough when I ordered this, and expected a book called "Modern Fashion" to be something different. So, just be sure this is what you are looking for. I would return it, or give it to a friend who sews or likes these details.

This book is truly gorgeous with its fantastic close up photographs of details of 20th century garments. There are chapters devoted to bows, to buttons, sleeves and so on. This book actually came before Avril Hart's "Fashion in detail - 17th & 18th Century Clothes" and together they will keep you occupied for many hours. I only wish there were more volumes. Sheer heaven!

In seeking to address the problematic and promising feature of Poland's particular messianism, Burnell draws up on the theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, arguing that his theology offers a much-needed critique of the myths and values of romantic national messianism. Where such messianism asks how Christ could serve a nation's cause and freedom, Bonhoeffer declared that by it is by following Christ in discipleship that people and nations become truly free. Recently, a new wave of Polish religio-political fundamentalism has appeared, as a response to the rapid secularization of society since the end of the Cold War. Certain members of the Polish clergy have again joined conservative politicians to promote nationalistic, populist, xenophobic, and anti-Semitic attitudes. Bonhoeffer, in contrast, argued for leaders who ennoble and empower those they serve, and modeled how patriots can honor their nation's achievements while freely confessing its failures. His legacy facilitates dialogue and reconciliation in the ongoing struggle against ethnic, religious and national bigotry. Following his lead, the messianic myth of ""Poland, the Christ of the nations,"" can be recast as a call to follow the One who is ""God-for-us"" and ""the-man-for-others"" by standing with the suffering, by speaking for the disenfranchised, and serving alongside other nations in the cause of freedom and justice. Wonderful quality - builds a great foundation

I looked at many workbooks in the book store before settling on this one, and I'm glad I did! It starts out with basics - connecting pictures and drawing straight lines horizontally and vertically - using very cute, clear graphics. It then progresses to diagonal lines, curved lines, zig zags, more complex curves, lines that cross over each other, etc. In this way, it gradually builds writing skills in a way that is fun for children. I also love that the paper is thick and high quality, the colors are vibrant, and the accompanying pictures are detailed and well-done.

My 3 year old son loves this workbook and asks to do it almost every day. I have a hard time keeping him to 2-3 pages each day - he'd sit and do the entire book if I let him! If I try to have him draw lines on paper, he loses interest quickly, but he loves drawing lines in this book to make a train get to the end of it's route or to show an ant how to get to his friend around several pieces of fruit. I can see a definite improvement in his pencil skills as a result of this book.

The only improvements I'd make is to have it bound with a spiral binding or to have the pages be designed to rip out. My son had trouble at first holding the book open and drawing at the same time. Other than that, the material itself was wonderful! I definitely recommend it!

My 26 month old loves this book!!!!!!!

Every day my 2 year old says, "Book, book." We sit down and I show him how to hold the pencil, I steady his hand and he pulls the pencil in the proper direction (90% of the time). It's exciting for both of us. The pictures are beautiful and he loves looking at them. Also the pages are very thick, which keeps them from being easily destroyed.

Great Skill Builder

I recommend this book for anyone who would like to help their child develop pencil skills. Do not worry if your child does not immediately excel with this book, just remember all children develop differently and reach the point where they can follow instructions and do workbook skills at different times. Hold off for a while if needed and re-introduce once in a while until the child is ready. Once the child is ready - you will be surprised how interested in the book they become and how quickly their skills improve. I advise following the workbook instructions that you not let the child do more than 2 pages per session because if they are left wanted to do more they will eagerly come back to it the next time.

I bought this book for my daughter when she was almost 3 but discovered she was not quite ready for it. She would follow the instructions sometimes, struggling to follow the paths, but many other times she was not interested in trying to follow the lines and would start scribbling on the pages, perhaps out of frustration that she was not quite ready for it. We continued to provide plain paper, coloring books, pens, pencils, markers, and crayons for her to work on her skills individually. Meanwhile we worked very slowly in the book only working in it every once in a while until recently (around 3 ½) when her interest and ability clicked with the book and now it is her second favorite "project book". (See the Kumon cutting book for the favorite!) I am very happy with the progressive nature of the book and even thought it took my child some time to work through the first half of the book, she is cruising along and we are only a couple of pages from the certificate of achievement at the end. I have the next books ready to go, Uppercase Letters, Number 1 - 30, and Mazes, and she was really excited when they were delivered. She can't wait to get her certificate and start in on the new ones.

Great book! Full of relevant references written by leaders in the field! It was phenomenal when it came out. Althought there are more recent books with more current refereces, this book is truly a leader in the field when it came out. A true classic.
